Privatbank and Monobank will block refugees' accounts: what is the reason
The Verkhovna Rada proposed block the accounts of some refugees. There is such a possibility if bill No. 8131 on amendments to the Tax Code is adopted, which is designed to introduce international standards for the exchange of information on bank accounts in our country. The bill was developed by Danilo Getmantsev, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Tax Policy. And Mikhail Kukhar, an economist, calculated that up to 1.5 million Ukrainians could lose their bank accounts in this way, writes Tekhnofan.
Privatbank and Monobank will block the accounts of refugees?
This happens when citizens do not report their tax residency status. Therefore, he will be denied financial services. The contractual relationship with the account holder will be terminated and the bank account will be cancelled. The reason for the cancellation may be the stay of a Ukrainian abroad for more than 180 days. Refugees who left Ukraine after February 24 and spent more than six months outside the state may fall under such criteria.
This can be avoided if citizens change their tax resident status and start paying taxes in the country in which they stopped. You also need to report this to the Ukrainian financial authorities, in particular, to your bank. So far, the parliament has adopted the proposed bill only in the first reading and it has not been finally approved.
