Washington club captain Alexander Ovechkin will miss today’s National Hockey League (NHL) regular season game against Edmonton.
The 36-year-old player who scored the most beautiful goal in NHL history has tested positive for coronavirus.
This was reported by the press service of the US Capital Club club on Twitter.
For the same reason, he will not take to the ice in the NHL All-Star Game, which is scheduled for February 5 in Las Vegas, where Ovechkin was chosen as the captain of the Capital Division team. He will be replaced by forward “Washington” Tom Wilson.
Ovechkin’s wife Anastasia Shubskaya learned about her husband’s illness on her way from Moscow to the States, where she flew to watch her husband play in the All-Star Game.
Ironically, Ovechkin tested positive for coronavirus on the last day of mandatory coronavirus testing.
He will also miss the third All-Star Game in a row: in 2019 and 2020, Ovi withdrew from this fight, and in 2021, the All-Star Game was not held due to the coronavirus pandemic.
At the end of January, Ovechkin for the first time scored no points in four games in a row. He made his last effective action on January 23 in a match with Ottawa, when he scored the puck.
However, Ovechkin still ranks fifth in the list of scorers in the regular season. On account of the captain of “Washington” 58 points: 29 goals and 29 assists. In total, the famous hockey player scored 759 goals in the NHL regular seasons (the fourth highest figure in league history).
