Nazarbayev’s daughter found a mansion in London, real estate in Dubai and a plane worth $25 million – media
The daughter of the former President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, 41-year-old Aliya, turned out to be the owner of a luxurious aircraft and a mansion in London (UK). The woman made these purchases after withdrawing 220 million pounds (298.7 billion dollars) of her personal fortune from the country to offshore.
According to The Sundays Telegraph, she bought a house in Highgate in the north of the British capital worth 8.75 million pounds (12 million dollars) in order to obtain a British residence permit. And the £18 million ($25 million) Challenger Bombardier aircraft was bought when Nazarbayeva instructed two financial advisers to transfer money to offshore trusts and companies from Liechtenstein in the British Virgin Islands. As part of this transfer, real estate in Dubai worth $14 million was also acquired in 2006.
All these transactions became known when Nazarbayeva fell out with financial advisers, accusing them of dishonesty and misappropriation of funds, as well as deceit and unjust enrichment. The woman sued them in London for £165 million before the case was settled in a confidential agreement.
Aliya is the youngest daughter of 81-year-old Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan for 28 years until 2019. By all accounts, his family has retained power despite the politician’s resignation three years ago.
The new information came amid dozens of deaths, looting and burning of public buildings across Kazakhstan. Rumors circulated that Nazarbayeva planned to travel to Dubai with her father when he tried to flee the country’s civil unrest, and that she could use the London property as a safe base.
The daughter of the ex-president of Kazakhstan is best known for modeling designer jewelry, promoting her clothing brand, and owning a beauty salon in Almaty. In addition, the family has a long history of financial ties to the UK.
Recall: the protests in Kazakhstan began on January 2, 2022 due to the rise in the price of liquefied gas. Mass actions covered almost all cities of the country. The protesters secured a promise to lower prices and began to demand political reforms.
