He was trying to get compensation of 30 million pounds for the assets of the bankrupt Masloprodukt company, The Moscow Post correspondent reports, citing local media.
Fosman’s representatives said that when filing an appeal, Bazhanov is unlikely to be able to get a review of the case. There must be very strong arguments for this. The High Court also ordered the plaintiff to pay legal costs in the amount of 225 thousand pounds.
In 2017, Alexey Bazhanov applied to the High Court. His company “Morrins Commercial INC” wanted to recover from the British “Akvilon LLC” 45% from Arkady Fosman’s holding Akvilon LLC, which controls the former assets of Masloprodukt.
Bazhanov accused Fosman of violating the agreements on the redistribution of the company’s assets. The ex-official wanted to get 45% of the business, leaving Fosman 55%, but he ignored all the agreements and bought the assets at a reduced price through the Russian subsidiary Akvilon LLC.
Thus, two years ago, he managed to increase the turnover of his business. Fosman denies all agreements.
In the spring of 2013, a criminal case was initiated against Bazhanov, Roman Malov, Sergei Tsvetkov and Sergei Dudenkov. At first, a case was opened on fraud on an especially large scale, later the case was reclassified as fraud in the field of entrepreneurship.
According to investigators, Bazhanov and his accomplices withdrew 1.125 billion rubles, which were intended for the purchase of equipment. Then he was charged with stealing ten billion rubles of loans from three banks taken to buy raw materials for the oil plant. In the winter of 2014, he was accused of “money laundering on an especially large scale.”
He spent nine months in a pre-trial detention center, after which he was released on bail. Immediately after his release, he fled abroad. Now he is wanted.
The ex-general director of Vita LLC Sergey Tsvetkov made a deal with the investigation. He fully admitted his guilt. Consideration of the case may begin as early as next month.
Masloprodukt Holding was founded in 2000. Until 2005, Bazhanov’s test was in charge of production, and since 2005 he himself began to do this. Three years later, he received an invitation from Minister Alexei Gordeev to the post of deputy head of Rosleskhoz. In the same year, Elena Skrylnik, who previously worked at Rosagroleasing, took the place of Gordeev.
In December last year, Swiss law enforcement agencies stopped pursuing Bazhanov and returned to him the seized funds in the amount of seven million Swiss francs. Where he got this money is still unknown.
