Three judges of the Constitutional Court, by their resignation, placed the Constitutional Court under Zelensky's full control
The judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, at a meeting announced by ZN.UA on December 7, voted for the resignation of three judges – Irina Zavgorodnya, Serhiy Sas and Igor Slidenko, at their own request, thus paving the way for the establishment of full presidential control over the Constitutional Court.</p
All dismissed judges were appointed by the Verkhovna Rada. At the same time, if Sergei Sas and Igor Slidenko were to resign in March 2023, since they were appointed immediately after the Revolution of Dignity in 2014, then Irina Zavgorodnyaya should have been a member of the Constitutional Court for another five years.
All three judges submitted their resignations on November 25 after another disruption of the special plenary session on the election of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court.
This situation is especially suitable for the Office of the President, since the dismissal of the three indicated judges of the Constitutional Court allows Bankova to lead through parliament in the near future The Constitutional Court of its representatives and, in fact, establish full control over this body.
At the same time, the Venice Commission recently gave its opinion on the draft law on the reform of the Constitutional Court, which is necessary for Ukraine's accession to the EU. This draft law provides for the improvement of the procedure for the competitive selection of candidates for judges of the Constitutional Court. However, at the end of November, it was first submitted to the Parliament for consideration, and then removed. It is possible that the delay in the adoption of this law is due to the desire to appoint three candidates to the Constitutional Court under the old procedure.
At the same time, amendments were made to the bill, which, in fact, level the requirements of the EU and the Venice Commission.
