Former Russian energy minister, now businessman Igor Yusufov has initiated a legal case against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This information was reported by Glavkom, citing the state portal Judicial Power of Ukraine. This occurred on October 19, 2022.
Medvedev's Purse is suing Zelensky over sanctions
According to this document, a total of 13 types of sanctions were imposed on the former Russian minister, including asset freeze, complete halt of trading activities, transit and transportation through Ukraine, capital withdrawal prevention, prohibition on participation in privatization and lease of state property, and a ban on land ownership acquisition.
The duration of these sanctions is 10 years.
According to the state portal “Judicial Power of Ukraine”, on November 21, the Supreme Court conducted a random selection to appoint the court panel to review the lawsuit filed by the Russian. Elena Gubskaya was chosen as the presiding judge for the case.
We add that, according to the NAPC, Igor Yusufov was a member of the board of directors of Gazprom for a decade. Now, he owns an energy corporation that invests in oil, gas, mining and infrastructure companies, engaging in commercial activities in sectors of the economy that contribute a large portion of the Russian budget, which is linked to the conflict in Ukraine and serves as a significant source of funding for the war.</p
Furthermore, the former Russian minister has close connections to the regime responsible for planning and leading a war of aggression against Ukraine, violating UN statutory documents and committing crimes against humanity, including the genocide of the Ukrainian people.
A number of Russian media outlets refer to Igor Yusufov as the “purse” of the former President of Russia and current Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev. It has been highlighted that the luxury yacht “Universe,” valued at $100 million, is registered to Yusufov, yet it is actually utilized by Dmitry Medvedev's family. According to proekt.media, the former Russian president and prime minister have an office and special communications on the ship, and Russian Navy ships frequently accompany it in the territorial waters of the Russian Federation.
Meanwhile, Russian journalists reported that in 2020, Dmitry Medvedev's son Ilya Medvedev and Maxim Yusufov, the son of ex-Energy Minister Igor Yusufov, vacationed together on a yacht.
Earlier, Yusufov attempted to deny his close association with Medvedev, stating that he had no business dealings with him and they had 'never discussed any commercial matters.'
