The EU lifted sanctions against the ex-governor of Sevastopol
Dmitry Ovsyannikov is no longer on the EU sanctions list: the EU court ruled to annul the decision to extend the sanctions back in October last year. This decision is motivated by the fact that Ovsyannikov no longer holds the positions due to which he was under sanctions in 2017.
In 2019, Ovsyannikov resigned as governor of the annexed Sevastopol and returned to the post of deputy head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. In April 2020, he made a scandal at the Izhevsk airport, after which he lost both his post and the party card of United Russia. In November of the same year, Ovsyannikov filed an appeal with the European court, as he suffered “economic damage as a result of sanctions that prevent him from carrying out any economic or entrepreneurial activity” in the EU, in particular, doing business in Cyprus.
