Forbes named the most impoverished billionaires in Russia in 2021
According to the authoritative portal Forbes, the most impoverished Russian in 2021 is the owner of the gold mining company Polyus, Suleiman Kerimov.
In second place is the president of the Skolkovo Foundation, Viktor Vekselberg. In third place in terms of lost funds was the co-owner of Domodedovo airport Dmitry Kamenshchik
Kerimov’s fortune decreased by almost six billion dollars and dropped to 14.92 billion. The oligarch’s losses are explained by the collapse in gold prices. It is worth mentioning that the Kerimov family owns 76.3% of the shares of Polyus.
Viktor Vekselberg has lost three billion dollars over the current year, now the billionaire has $9.3 billion on his accounts. He is subject to sanctions imposed on his accounts by the US Treasury. As a result of the restrictions, more than $1.5 billion were blocked on the western accounts of the oligarch.
Dmitry Kamenshchik lost $668 million this year, his current fortune is $1.8 billion. The loss of the co-owner of the Domodedovo airport was preceded by a pandemic. The billionaire’s profit in the first half of 2021 was five times less than in the same period of pre-Covid 2019.
The fourth and fifth lines were shared between the shareholder of the coal mines UMMC, UMMC-Trans and Kuzbassrazrezugol Andrey Kozitsyn and the shareholder of AFK Sistema Evgeny Yevtushenko. The first lost $615 million and the second lost $414 million. In sixth place was the owner of the cinema chain Alexander Mamut, for the year he lost 320 million dollars. In addition, Mamut owed creditors 23.5 billion rubles. In 2017, he took out a loan to buy cinemas.
Gavril Yushvaev, head of the Domo software development company, is on the seventh position. He lost $285 million due to a 19% drop in his company’s stock.
