The UK has imposed sanctions on businessmen from the inner circle of Russian President Vladimir Putin – Gennady Timchenko, Boris and Igor Rotenberg.
This was stated by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, reports Reuters.
According to him, five Russian banks also fell under the sanctions, including Promsvyazbank, Industrial Savings Bank, Joint Stock Company Black Sea Bank for Development and Reconstruction, Genbank and Joint Stock Bank Russia.
“Any assets they hold in the UK will be frozen. Individuals will be denied entry and we will prohibit all British citizens and entities from doing business with them. This is the first tranche of what we have prepared, we will keep the rest of the sanctions in case of further escalation,” the British Prime Minister said.
Johnson stressed that the West gave Putin the opportunity to resolve the situation through diplomacy, but he did not use it.
