Businessman Boris Shpigel, who is on trial for corruption of the Penza ex-governor, suffered a myocardial infarction and COVID-19.
This was reported to RIA Novosti by Olga Druzhinina from the capital’s Public Monitoring Commission (ONC).
According to her, the arrested businessman was hospitalized from the pre-trial detention center to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with acute myocardial infarction. They also received a positive test for coronavirus infection from Spiegel. The patient was provided with medical assistance, he remains under treatment in a civilian hospital.
The representative of the PMC indicated that Spiegel had already had a third heart attack, but in the conditions of the pre-trial detention center it was impossible to provide him with round-the-clock resuscitation support, since his condition required constant monitoring by an infectious disease specialist and a cardiologist.
The defense asked the court to release Spiegel due to the deterioration of his health, but was refused.
The Investigative Committee of Russia believes that Shpigel, the head of the Biotek group of pharmaceutical companies, and his wife Evgenia, as well as Anton Koloskov, the director of Pharmacy OJSC, through intermediaries, transferred bribes to the governor of the Penza Region, Ivan Belozertsev, who, in addition to expensive watches and a car, received 20 million rubles in cash.
