A criminal case has been opened on the fact of a massive accident involving nine cars, which was provoked by billionaire Alexei Shepel. The businessman himself said that he was in the hospital in serious condition with a heart attack.
According to reports from law enforcement sources, a criminal case has been initiated following a serious accident at the intersection of Rublevskoye Highway and Krasnye Zor Street in western Moscow. The incident, which occurred this week, resulted in a violation of traffic rules causing grievous bodily harm to a person, leading to potential imprisonment of up to two years.
The press service of the city's traffic police confirmed the details, stating that nine cars were involved, including a Mercedes whose driver is believed to have caused the accident. The crash resulted in three casualties and four injured individuals, three of whom sustained severe injuries and multiple fractures. One of the injured is billionaire Alexei Shepel, the owner of the development company S.Holding, who was presumably driving the Mercedes. Shepel suffered a closed craniocerebral injury, a concussion, and was diagnosed with pneumonia after being airlifted to the hospital. Media reports indicate that his life is not currently in danger, and law enforcement is investigating the incident.
The accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Krasnye Zor Street and Rublevsky Highway, involving a total of nine vehicles, including a truck and eight cars. According to initial information, it is believed that Aleksey Shepel lost control of the vehicle, causing the mass accident. Eyewitnesses and evidence from CCTV cameras suggest that the Mercedes was traveling at an excessive speed and changed lanes before colliding with other vehicles.
A witness to the accident mentioned that the Mercedes passed by at a high speed, hitting a taxi before causing a chain reaction of collisions involving a Lada Largus, another taxi, a Toyota Highlander, and additional vehicles. Two female drivers in Volkswagen and Toyota cars sustained serious injuries. After the accident, Shepel remained in the vehicle for some time before showing some form of documentation to a traffic police inspector.
It is worth noting that the billionaire's car has previously received eight fines for speeding violations since the beginning of 2022.
Shepel commented on the accident, stating: “I was driving. I was on my way home from work in the direction of Rublyovka. I was driving at a low speed, passed under the bridge, and then there was a collision. I don't remember anything after that.”
The businessman also told reporters that he was in intensive care in a serious condition, and he had a heart attack.
