The Russian structure of Google – LLC “Google” – intends to apply to the arbitration court with an application for recognition of its own bankruptcy, follows from the notice on the Federal resource.
It notes that the company “foresees its own bankruptcy and the impossibility of fulfilling monetary obligations from March 22, 2022.”
A Google representative in a conversation with RBC noted that the company had previously suspended most of its commercial operations in Russia. “The seizure of the Google Russia bank account made it impossible for our Russian office to function, including retaining employees and paying salaries in Russia, paying suppliers and contractors, and meeting other financial obligations,” he said. At the same time, Google will continue to work in Russia and provide users with its free services, such as YouTube, Gmail, Google Maps and others, the company representative added.
The Russian “daughter” of Google has been repeatedly fined for not removing prohibited content on its sites, including YouTube. Until March 19, the company had to pay a turnover fine imposed by Roskomnadzor in the amount of more than 7.2 billion rubles. In May, bailiffs opened a case against Google to enforce this fine. In addition, several lawsuits were filed against the company by Russian media.
The Russian legal entity Google was registered in 2005. At the end of last year, the company received the first net loss since at least 2009 in the amount of 26 billion rubles.
