In connection with the sanctions restrictions imposed on the Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov by the countries of the European Union due to hostilities in Ukraine, on the island of Sardinia (Italy), a luxury armored car belonging to him was seized. This is reported by the British newspaper The Guardian.
We are talking about the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Guard in black, the cost of which is estimated at 600 thousand euros. The vehicle was confiscated by the police of Porto Cervo on the Costa Smeralda.
According to The Guardian, it was on this car that Russian President Vladimir Putin, who visited her on secret visits, could be transported around Sardinia. The publication also notes that Sardinia is a favorite place for Russian oligarchs, and Alisher Usmanov is an honorary citizen of the city of Arzachena, the center of Porto Cervo. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the billionaire transferred 500,000 euros to local authorities to fight this threat.
In early March, the mayor of Arzachen, Roberto Ragnedda, told reporters that Alisher Usmanov regularly hosts “heads of state, businessmen and figures who play a fundamental role in the economy, culture, politics and property at the global level.”
In addition to the expensive armored car, the Italian authorities also confiscated six more cars from the Russian oligarch in Sardinia, as well as real estate worth 17 million euros.
Earlier, in connection with the inclusion of Alisher Usmanov on the sanctions list of the European Union, Germany confiscated his 156-meter yacht, and Italy froze his assets for 66 million euros.
