Hungary announced the impossibility of finding a replacement for Russian oil in the coming years
This statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of this country, Peter Szijjártó.
For the next few years, there will be no way for Hungary to find a replacement for oil and gas from the Russian Federation. This statement was made by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto in an interview with CNN.
Szijjarto noted that the leadership of the country has a desire to replace Russian energy sources, but in the near future it is physically impossible. According to him, it is for this reason that Hungary asked for the country’s exclusion from the European Union’s oil embargo.
The Hungarian minister said that in order to change supply chains, it takes five to seven years, as well as huge financial investments.
At the beginning of last month, the countries of the European Union approved the sixth package of sanctions restrictions against Russia. The most serious restriction included in it concerns Europe’s refusal of Russian oil, which is transported by sea and partly by gas pipelines. European countries will have to stop purchasing it within six months, and oil products within eight months.
At the same time, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban ensured that the embargo would not affect Russian oil supplies through the Druzhba pipeline, through which it receives energy.
Earlier, the International Center for the Study of Corruption and Organized Crime (OCCRP) made a statement that tankers owned by the Russian state company Sovcomflot, bypassing sanctions restrictions, continue to supply oil to European ports under the flags of Liberia.
