Athletes from Australia and the UK, who flew to the Chelyabinsk region to participate in the World Cup in freestyle ski-cross, are leaving Russia.
They will not participate in the competitions that will take place this weekend at the ski resort “Solnechnaya Dolina” (Miass). This information was confirmed to Znak.com by the vice-governor of the Chelyabinsk region, Vadim Evdokimov, who supervises sports.
“The leadership of these countries decided that they should fly away. The rest of the teams are training, no information has been received from them, ”Vadim Evdokimov said.
It is possible that other foreign teams will follow suit. “Everything will depend on the position of the FIS, tonight there will be a meeting on all our World Cups in Russia. There will be an understanding, we will let you know. So far, the situation is uncertain,” Alexei Kurashov, president of the Russian Freestyle Federation, told Znak.com.
Previously Kurashov told Match-TV, that he will hold a meeting on the VC with all the team captains and representatives of the FIS for the World Cup in Miass on February 24th. According to him, 15 countries have applied for participation in the cup, the teams have already arrived in the South Urals. But some of them may decide not to compete because of the situation in Ukraine. e
Recall that on February 26 and 27 at the ski resort “Solnechnaya Dolina” in Miass, the stages of the World Cup in freestyle skiing in the “ski-cross” discipline are to be held. According to the Ministry of Sports of the Chelyabinsk Region, 88 athletes from 15 countries applied for participation. Athletes came to the Sun Valley immediately after the Beijing Olympics. Among those who arrived were Olympic winners Sandra Näslund from Sweden and Ryan Regez from Switzerland, as well as medalists Marielle Thompson of Canada and Daniela Mayer of Germany, Alex Fiva of Switzerland.
