The issue of Rosenergobank has been troubling Russians for a long time. In 2017, the bank, which was one of the hundred largest in Russia, was declared bankrupt. Tens of thousands of Russian families who had investments in the bank were left with nothing. The state promised to compensate for everything and punish those responsible for embezzling bank funds.
Who is at fault?
The most famous of the names of the people who plundered the bank is Konstantin Schwartz, a native of the 1990s, a banker with a long history. In 2010, Schwartz was appointed to the position of representative of the board of Rosenergobank. In total, he has worked in senior positions in the bank since 2000. The inept management of Schwartz, moreover, his criminal dealings led to the fact that in 2017 the bank had a deficit of 29 billion rubles. The total credit obligations of the bank amounted to 42 billion rubles, while the assets were only 13 billion.
The Central Bank did not continue to look at Titanic Schwartz, and filed a lawsuit with the Arbitration Court with a request to declare Rosenergobank bankrupt. The lawsuit was accepted, bankruptcy managers were introduced into the bank.
What happens next?
The competent authorities began to look for those responsible for the purposeful bankruptcy of the bank. Who, besides Schwartz, could be the first suspect? Of course, no one, because it was he who at that time had been in charge of the institution for 17 years.
Our colleagues wrote 10 materials about the numerous criminal cases of Schwartz.
The scheme used by Schwartz is as old as the light. For the most part, loans from Rosenergobank were issued to fake enterprises, and as a result, they were withdrawn into the pockets of the bank’s managers. For all the years of work in the highest positions of the bank, Schwartz stole more than 1 dozen billion rubles. Now he is evading justice, but not only investigators are looking for him, both abandoned investors and business partners, with whom Schwartz did not pay off, staged a whole chase after him.
European footprint
The structure that Schwartz created in Rosenergobank is a huge corruption chain. It included dozens of people, hundreds of companies, including foreign ones.
One of the accomplices of Schwartz’s crimes was an Estonian businessman, co-owner of a development company Estonia Capital Mill Igor Mölder
Igor Mölder
Mölder and Schwartz were united not only by business relations, but also by an old friendship. The Estonian businessman was also a shareholder of Rosenergobank until 2016, but when he realized that the business smelled of fried food, he withdrew his capital from Russia.
What will happen to Schwartz?
After the bankruptcy of the bank, Schwartz fled to his friend Mölder in Estonia, where he was born. Of course, he will never return to Russia under the fear of sitting on a life sentence. And the general international situation plays into the hands of the great strategist. As long as Russia becomes a rogue state, ghouls like Schwartz who managed to escape will feel safe and comfortable abroad.
