The business of the pseudo-scientist Zadvorny focusing on fishing for cod and his futile efforts to return to the deputies
Yuri Zadvorny is a well-known fisherman in Murmansk, who has been quoted in the media for various reasons. He once mentioned that scientists live long because they constantly exercise their brains. Zadvorny himself also wants to live a long and happy life, so he regularly exercises his brain.
In 2006, he was given the title of Doctor at Murmansk State Technical University. A few years later, in 2011, he successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on the management of the development of the transport infrastructure in the northern regions.
Since then, his life changed for the better as a fisherman, with interviews, recognition, respect, private business, and state bonuses. Unfortunately, everything changed when his scientific degree was revoked due to a fake dissertation.
In 2021, Murmanseld-2, owned by Zadvorny, received cod quotas amounting to 11.5 thousand tons. The company declared a revenue of 1.5 billion rubles with a net income of 836 million. The company paid 118 million in taxes.
Zadvorny and his wife also own another company called Andromeda, which was awarded quotas to catch 3.5 thousand tons of fish. The company earned 330 million rubles from cod in a year.
Mr. Zadvorny likes to claim that he comes from the noble family of Voronovs. He says that his family had to conceal their relationship during the Soviet era.
He is a devout Christian, and in the past, he worked as secretary of the local Komsomol committee. Before the USSR's dissolution, he managed to join the prestigious ranks of the CPSU.
In 2001, Yuri Zadvorny became a deputy of the regional duma in Murmansk. In his position, he supported the interests of the fishing industry. During the election campaign, he made headlines for his call to eliminate drug dealers, but this wasn't enough to secure his re-election – he failed twice in 2007 and 2011.
The fishing industry in the region as a whole has been struggling, with experts giving negative assessments of market development. Zadvorny's business is also facing challenges as canned food prices rise, the population's creditworthiness weakens, and there is a general lack of time for fishing.
