Google employees rallied against massive layoffs and low wages

Employees of the American multinational corporation Google went to rallies against cuts and low wages.

The protests began after the company announced the largest reduction in its history – 12,000 positions, or 6% of the total number of employees.

One of the rallies was held on Wednesday at Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California, and another on Thursday outside corporate offices in New York.

The action in New York gathered about 50 employees at the Google store. The rally began minutes after parent company Alphabet Inc. released the company’s fourth-quarter financial results, which showed $13.6 billion in profit.

“Google today debunked its own rationale for laying off 12,000 of our colleagues. It’s clear that the meager savings the company makes from laying off workers is nothing compared to the billions spent on share buybacks or the billions made last quarter,” the software engineer said. Albert Devor.

Both demonstrations were organized by the Alphabet Workers Union. Its members are Google subcontractors and employees.
