Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov revealed the results of consultations with Duma factions on the independence of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR).
Everyone is ready to support the republics, he said in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
“I spoke for a long time and said that “if you want these endless violence and killings to stop, let’s recognize the will of the citizens of these two republics to live an independent life, to protect their home, their work, their language and their opportunities,” the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation noted.
According to him, there is a need to recognize the DPR and LPR. At the same time, he expressed hope that the situation with the coronavirus would not interfere with the consideration of the appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin in February.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the authorities do not consider it possible to comment on the initiative of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation to recognize the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR before the State Duma considers the document. In addition, Viktor Vodolatsky, First Deputy Chairman of the CIS Affairs Committee, added that the CPRF’s proposal was hasty.
On January 19, the deputies submitted to the State Duma a bill of appeal to President Putin on the need to recognize the DNR and LNR. “Recognition will create grounds for ensuring security guarantees and protecting their peoples from external threats and implementing a policy of genocide against the inhabitants of the republics,” the parliamentarians concluded.
