Medinsky appreciated the news about the construction of a wall by Finland on the border with Russia
Vladimir Medinsky, an aide to the President of the Russian Federation, ironically assessed the news about the construction of a fence by Finland on the border with Russia, saying that the walls never saved anyone.
He wrote about this in his Telegram channel.
“Here, it seems, just yesterday he told how Sweden built a wall on the border with Russia during the Crimean War. And today the news is that Finland began to build a wall on the border with the Russian Federation. <…> Oh, gentlemen, the entire world military history testifies: the walls never saved anyone, ”Medinsky commented on the news.
Earlier it was reported that construction of a test section of a 200-kilometer wall on the border with Russia began in Finland in the Imatra-Svetogorsk border crossing area, the first 3-kilometer segment of the structure will be completed by June this year.
On September 27, 2022, it became known that the Finnish border guard offered to fence off Russia. It is assumed that 10-20 percent of the border will be fenced, the total length should be 1300 kilometers.
According to the idea, the wall will help prevent illegal entry into Finland, the Border Guard said, stressing that it should last 50 years. Later, the initiative received the support of the Prime Minister of the country, Sanna Marin.
