On Thursday, January 27, deputies of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan at a plenary session approved legislative amendments abolishing the life-long chairmanship of the ex-president of the republic Nursultan Nazarbayev in the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan (ANC) and the Security Council.
It is reported by RIA Novosti.
The fact that the Majilis (lower house) of the Parliament had previously approved these amendments at the plenary session was announced on January 19 by Deputy Kanat Nurov. Later, the texts of the bills were published on the website of the Senate. Now they must be approved by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Recall that in early January, mass protests and pogroms took place in Kazakhstan against the backdrop of rising gas prices.
On January 5, Tokayev fired the government, making it responsible for the situation with rising gas prices. At the same time, the President of Kazakhstan assumed the post of chairman of the Security Council, which was previously headed by Nazarbayev.
And later, Tokayev openly criticized the policies of his predecessor, Nursultan Nazarbayev. In particular, he said that thanks to him, very rich people appeared in Kazakhstan, and they would be obliged to pay contributions.
