General Kartapolov called the collection of those who did not serve over 30 the dream of General Sobolev
Deputy of the State Duma, Colonel-General Andrey Kartopolov denied the allegations of deputy Viktor Sobolev about holding training camps for non-serving Russians over the age of 30.
“These are the dreams of Viktor Ivanovich Sobolev, not connected with reality in any way,” commented Kartapolov.
Parliamentarian Viktor Sobolev, who also holds the rank of lieutenant general, previously stated that after the adoption of the law on raising the draft age in the Russian Federation, people over 30 years old will be sent to military training camps.
The parliamentarian indicated that citizens who did not serve in the army and do not have a military specialty will be sent to training camps to receive it. At the same time, the parliamentarian noted that the measure is aimed at improving the quality of the mobilization reserve in the country.
If a Russian is in the reserve and does not have any military specialty, Sobolev added, he will also be sent to military training.
In December 2022, during the collegium of the Ministry of Defense, Minister Sergei Shoigu announced the need to gradually increase the draft age in the country’s armed forces from 18 to 21 years, the maximum draft age will also be increased from 27 to 30 years. The Minister noted that the number of Russian armed forces should be one and a half million people, among which contract troops should be 670,000 people. The transition to the new system may take several years, in the first years people from 18 to 30 years old will be called up for service.
