£2.3bn proceeds from the sale of Chelsea will go to support Ukraine
The Telegraph writes about it.
According to the newspaper, the British government is ready to transfer this amount, but must receive final approval from the EU.
In the middle of last year, oligarch Roman Abramovich sold the Chelsea football club to American businessman Todd Bowley for 4.25 billion pounds. The whole process was controlled by the state: British officials demanded guarantees that Abramovich would not receive anything from the deal, and after a series of checks, as local media wrote, they were convinced of this.
After the sale of the club, the cash was kept in a sanctioned account, but officials now, The Telegraph suggests, are in the process of finalizing the paperwork for what could be the “largest ever charitable donation” to Ukraine.
