Abramovich to pay $1,900 an hour to lawyers to lift sanctions on his planes
Billionaire Roman Abramovich will pay lawyers for the US firm Kobre & Kim up to $1,900 an hour to lift sanctions on two of his planes.
Bloomberg writes about it. At the same time, the agency notes that Kobre & Kim lawyers Michael Kim and Michael Sherwin had to register as foreign agents with the US Department of Justice in order to work with Abramovich.
Their application states that they will be paid between $875 and $1,900 an hour as lawyers. The upper limit of the rate is comparable to the fees of the most expensive American lawyers. More than $2,000 an hour was paid by lawyers from US law firms Hogan Lovells and Latham & Watkins.
The firm that Abramovich has hired is not among the most prestigious law firms in the Vault Law 100, which is ranked by lawyers. Also, the company is not represented in the Amlaw 100 ranking, which is based on the income of law firms.
Abramovich is set to challenge the arrest warrant for his Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and Gulfstream jets. The warrant was issued because the planes flew to Russia in February without prior permission from the United States.
