The Russian government has rejected a draft law submitted to the State Duma by the Chechen parliament on a ban on giving in the media information about the ethnicity and religion of offenders.
The negative response of the Cabinet of Ministers to the initiative is posted in the Duma electronic base.
According to the document, Article 51 of the media law prohibits journalists from “disseminating information with the aim of discrediting a citizen or certain categories of citizens solely on the basis of gender, age, race or nationality, language, or attitude to religion.”
