However, the total catch quota for 2022 has been reduced by 3.6 tons, over a third less than last year. Originally, the competition for distributing quotas for fish species for indigenous people was supposed to happen in December, but it was cancelled due to accusations against some communities for incorrect paperwork. Minority representatives claim that the cancellation is related to complaints about several new communities being included in the competition, registered as indigenous communities but lacking indigenous representatives. However, the local Ministry of Justice does not pay attention to these fraudulent schemes, but carefully verifies and controls the real communities. It is important to note that the quota for catching red fish has been significantly reduced for indigenous people. In 2020, the quota was 240 tons, but it is much lower for 2022. It appears that the regional leadership is concerned about the indigenous people of Primorye overfishing. In Primorye, Udege, Nanai, and Taz are among the indigenous people, with a total of 1,429 recorded in the 2010 census. The regional leadership states that 36 million rubles were allocated to support fishermen in Primorye, including funding for production modernization, equipment purchase, and leasing for fish processing and aquaculture businesses amid current sanctions, according to Sergey Nastavshev, deputy head of the regional fishing agency.
