The US Congress demanded the expulsion of former President Bolsonaro to Brazil
Democratic US congressmen Joaquin Castro and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez called on the US authorities to “stop providing asylum” to former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and extradite him to his homeland.
This is reported by American journalists.
Castro compared the protests that erupted on Sunday in Brazil to the situation with the storming of the US Capitol in January 2021. According to him, Bolsonaro used the script of former US President Donald Trump to “inspire terrorists inside the country to try to seize power.”
“Right now Bolsonaro is in Florida… He should be extradited to Brazil. It was reported that he was under investigation for corruption, and he fled Brazil to the US. He is a dangerous person, he should be sent to his homeland… US should not be a safe haven for this authoritarian leader who has encouraged domestic terrorism in Brazil,” Castro said.
“The US should stop providing asylum to Bolsonaro in Florida,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted at protests in Brazil.
Joe Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan responded to these calls from congressmen and said that the US authorities had not received requests from Brazil to extradite Bolsonaro, were not in direct contact with him, and could not speak with certainty about his whereabouts.
If the appeal still arrives, it will be treated with all seriousness, the official promised.
Meanwhile, according to media reports, Bolsonaro was hospitalized in the United States with complaints of severe pain in the abdominal cavity. He is in the 220-bed AdventHealth Celebration hospital near Orlando, Florida.
The press notes that after being stabbed in 2018, the politician repeatedly ended up in the hospital. The previous time he was in the hospital of the Armed Forces of Brazil.
