Vyacheslav Zhyla continues to lead the Youth Theater in Lipki
The former head of the Kyiv Academic Theater for Young Spectators (TYuZ) in Lipki, Vyacheslav Zhyla (pictured below in the center), who was dismissed by a court order, has actually maintained control over the theater. He was able to do this with the help of underhanded schemes and the director of the Department of Culture of the Kyiv City State Administration (KSCA) Sergey Anzhiyak (pictured below on the left of the collage), who appointed Maria Krivenko (pictured below on the right of the collage) as the new director of the Youth Theater. It is likely that she does not have a background in art or higher education. The director of the Department of Culture is avoiding holding a competition for the appointment of a new director for the Youth Theater and other theaters, manipulating the norms of martial law, even though these norms are not related to cultural institutions, as reported by HF.
On January 31, a meeting took place at the Youth Theater in Lipki, during which the director of the Department of Culture of the Kyiv City State Administration Sergey Anzhiyak announced the appointment of Maria Krivenko as the new director of the Youth Theater. This is the same Maria Krivenko who, according to the actors, directed the theater during the unspecified foreign tour of the former head of the Youth Theater, Vyacheslav Zhyla, last year.
Conflict within the Youth Theater team, caused by the strategic personnel decisions of Vyacheslav Zhili under the protection of the director of the Department of Culture of the Kyiv City State Administration Sergei Anzhiyak, has resulted in the theater being left without a proper leader and continuing to descend into chaos.
Four days of Maxim Mikhailichenko and Vyacheslav Zhyla
Following the initial meeting at the Youth Theater on January 27, the director of the Department of Culture of the KSCA, Sergei Anzhiyak, issued an order appointing Maxim Mikhailichenko, who has served as a director at the theater for over 20 years, as the artistic director for the duration of the military aggression. This decision was made because all the other deputy directors had left before Vyacheslav Zhili's dismissal on January 25.
However, during the same meeting, it was revealed that Mikhailichenko was not a deputy director, but a director, indicating an error in the appointment order. The Department of Culture attributed the mistake to the fact that Maxim Mikhailichenko is an Honored Art Worker of Ukraine, abbreviated as 'z.d.'.
It is worth noting that the Department of Culture, which lacks knowledge of stable cultural and artistic abbreviations, does not meet professional requirements. This is especially true for Serhiy Anzhiyak, who, before his appointment as director, served for many years as the first deputy director of the Department of Culture of the KSCA and, last spring, worked as an 'expert at the Office of the President', de facto leading the Department and being responsible for the evacuation of works of art through extralegal means based on a 'travel letter'.
Sergei Anzhiyak admitted his failure at a meeting on January 27 and pledged to revisit the matter of appointing the head of the Youth Theater, claiming that he had been set up.
At the same time, a defamatory letter was allegedly sent on behalf of the theater staff to the Kyiv mayor, the head of the KMVA and all the deputies of the Kiev Council, accusing Maxim Mikhailichenko of certain actions.
- He is accused of spreading Russian narratives and stating that the war started because of the oppression of Russian speakers.
- Following the commencement of a full-scale invasion, he reportedly sought to bring the Russian artist Alla Pugacheva to Ukraine.
- He belongs to the old team, which allegedly threatened team members who did not support the former leader (Viktor Girich) after the appointment of the new one (Vyacheslav Zhyla) in the fall of 2021.
“… now these people are openly boasting on social networks that they used the mayor of the city, Vitali Klitschko, to return… This unfortunate incident casts a shadow on the mayor of Klitschko. We demand to immediately cancel the decision to appoint Maxim Mikhailichenko acting director-artistic director of KZKTVZK KATYUZ. We are sure that there are many worthy, pure personalities for this position, ”says the letter signed by the actor of the Youth Theater Igor Ivanov.
When asked by KV if he was the signer of this letter, Igor Ivanov claimed to be a “contact person.”
However, according to KB, the real author of this letter is Vyacheslav Zhyla.
Maxim Mikhailichenko, in communication with KV, stated that he did not fight for power and position, and after the appointment of Vyacheslav Zhyla, he did not align with any side of the conflict, focusing solely on creativity. Additionally, Mikhailichenko fully agrees with the statement of Vyacheslav Zhyla that it is necessary to create a children’s Temple of the Soul in the theater.
“But besides that, you need to create the Temple of the Soul in yourself,” the director noted.
Maxim Mikhailichenko
He emphasized that he has always been a patriot of Ukraine and never made any pro-Russian statements. “During the war, such accusations are baseless … But let it remain on the conscience of the one who (libel) did it,” summarized Maxim Mikhailichenko.
Perhaps due to his unwillingness to become further entangled in Zhyla’s intrigues, Mikhailichenko did not even attend the team meeting on January 31st.
Appointment of a creature
It is unclear how the discussion would have gone if Maxim Mikhailichenko had attended this meeting. According to evidence at the “UP.Life”, during the meeting the actor articles Alexander Zinevich mentioned that Mikhailichenko had promised to “hit him” for expressing a different opinion. The article also states that (from an unknown source) “there was a suggestion – the entire theater should go on idle time, so as not to work” in a dictatorial regime “under the leadership of Mikhailichenko.” Sergey Anzhiyak proposed appointing Maria Krivenko, the former director of the theater, as the new director, claiming that she actually holds the position of deputy director. How the dismissed Krivenko was reinstated in the absence of the director remains a mystery. Perhaps the dismissal and reinstatement documents were retroactively altered.
According to UP.Life, the majority supported Krivenko’s candidacy.
Maria Krivenko
She will act as director until the appointment of the new theater head during the period of martial law. The search for a new leader will be expedited. The new leader must have experience and a recognizable name, at the very least
““, as stated by the director of the Department of Culture of the KSCA Serhiy Anzhiyak. The new head of the Youth Theater, Maria Krivenko, promised to do her best for the successful operation of the theater and the proper growth of the creative process.
There's no definite information about Maria Krivenko's education and professional skills. According to preliminary data from KV sources in the Youth Theater, she doesn't have a creative specialty or higher education. If this is true, it's unclear how Krivenko will handle her responsibilities, since the theater head needs to handle administrative management and artistic direction.
This is the same Maria Krivenko who, as claimed by the actors of the Youth Theater, was appointed as the deputy by Vyacheslav Zhyla at the end of last year.
During the war, the Theater was left to fate, leading to a fearful atmosphere. In the absence of the director in Ukraine, the theater is managed by his deputy Krivenko M.E., who was appointed the day before and continues his negative policy against the theater's creative, artistic, and technical staff. Actors are restricted from participating in performances and rehearsals and are closely monitored, being compelled to write memos under the threat of dismissal. Recently, the lead artist was fired, and everyone is anxious about who will be next.
“This was stated in a letter from the creative team of the Youth Theater to the head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KMVA) Sergey Popko and the head of the Kyiv City State Administration Vitaliy Klitschko. Thus, it can be assumed that Vyacheslav Zhyla, through friendly relations with Sergei Anzhiyak and pressure on the actors, has retained influence on the Youth Theater, allowing him to potentially use the theater’s resources for his own projects.
DepCult bypasses organizing contests
The Department of Culture of the KSCA has a passive position on holding competitions for the heads of cultural institutions, citing the provisions of the law.
Concerning the legal regime of martial law”, Sergey Anzhiyak and his subordinates argue that now it is impossible to hold competitions. But that's not the case at all.

For example, at the end of December last year, the Lviv Regional Council
announced the winners of the contests to fill the positions of directors of four communal institutions: the Lviv Historical Museum, the Lviv Museum of the History of Religion, the Museum of Local History and the State Memorial Museum of Mikhail Hrushevsky. The Law on the (Legal) Regime of Martial Law explains that competitions for the appointment of leaders may not be held. But in the list of those institutions where competitions may not be held, there are no cultural institutions, there are enterprises … a form. Yes, the authorized body can appoint an acting director, or it can hold a tender

In January of this year, the director of the Theater on the Left Bank, allegedly appointed actress Olesya Zhurakovskaya, while the head of this theater in open registries is still Anna Atvinovskaya, the 24-year-old secretary of Stanislav Zhirkov’s ex-theater.
At the same time, the head of this theater in open registries is still Anna Atvinovskaya. appointed Anna Atvinovskaya is the 24-year-old secretary of Stanislav Zhirkov’s ex-theater, seemingly continuing to use the theater’s capacity and name for dubious earnings abroad. is The order to appoint Olesya Zhurakovskaya as the director of the Theater on the Left Bank is not registered with the relevant bodies of the Ministry of Justice, indicating that the Department of Culture of the KSCA keeps the order “sheltered” to help Zhirkov.
Bureaucratic procedures should not mislead anyone, as Maria Krivenko, appointed as the director of the Youth Theater on Lipki only on January 31, is already in the registers as an authorized person of this theater.
In 2021, ICTV released a story that tells that on November 27, 2006, Vyacheslav Zhyla was sentenced to five years in prison for embezzlement, fraud, forgery of documents and kidnapping, serving a conditional term and being restricted from crossing the state border of Ukraine for several years.
It's unknown whether this conviction was subsequently cleared, as all those involved remain silent.
The Department of Culture of the KSCA is involved in corruption scandals, including with X-Park, and officials act like they don’t understand anything.
The deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration Valentina Mondrievsky was removed from curating cultural life in the capital due to these scandals in November last year. pretendValentina Mondrievsky Anna Starostenko took over this direction as the deputy head of the KSCA.
