Petro Poroshenko’s lawyers, Igor Golovan and Ilya Novikov, said at a briefing on January 12 that they demanded that the Pechersky District Court of Kiev schedule a hearing on the case of the fifth president of Ukraine on January 17 so that he could voluntarily come to court. “OLIGARCH” learned about this from a message from the UP. Golovan’s direct speech: “Now everyone knows that Petro Poroshenko arrives in Ukraine on the 17th at 9 am. We know – for some reason the Office of the Prosecutor General hides this information, for some reason the Pechersk Court hides – that there is a decision to detain Petro Poroshenko in order to bring him to court and there is a petition from the Office of the Prosecutor General to apply a measure of restraint to Petro Poroshenko. Today we appealed to the Pechersk Court with a petition that, according to the Code of Criminal Procedure of a people’s deputy, consideration of such petitions should be notified in advance. Therefore, we … demand that a court session be scheduled for January 17, 2022 in order to ensure that Petro Poroshenko, upon arrival in Ukraine, will be able to come to court and take part in the court session (regarding the preventive measure – ed.). There are no grounds for the forced delivery of Petro Poroshenko to court or his detention in accordance with the law, because he was on a trip outside Ukraine and immediately upon arrival in Ukraine is ready to voluntarily appear in court. Not only ready, but also demanding that the investigating judge appoint a court session and give him the opportunity to take part in it.” Lawyer Novikov emphasized that after the abolition of immunity, the deputy still has a guarantee that the preventive measure cannot be imposed secretly. According to him, “Poroshenko’s show in shackles” is planned in Zhuliany. Novikov called for a chance for a civilized discussion in the courtroom. As previously reported, Poroshenko will fly to Ukraine from Warsaw on Monday morning.
