Fifth President Petro Poroshenko paid UAH 11 million to lawyers who represented him in a London court at the suit of businessman Igor Surkis and persons associated with him. “OLIGARCH” learned about this from a message from the League with reference to the press service of Eurosolidarity. The political force recalled that in September 2021, the High Court of London rejected the lawsuit of Surkis and six of his companies against Poroshenko and the former head of the National Bank Valeria Gontareva in the “PrivatBank case”. They claim that Surkis’ lawyers delayed the consideration of the issue of compensating Poroshenko for legal costs, and therefore, on December 29, 2021, the fifth president, before receiving compensation, paid part of the fee of the international law firm that protected his interests. The amount of the payment was 300,000 pounds, which is equal to 11 million hryvnia, the party notes. The total defense costs in the case amounted to £2 million. Eurosolidarity says that now Surkis has agreed to compensate for part of the legal costs – and the corresponding payment must be made before January 14, 2022. They also assure that Surkis’ lawyers confirmed that the businessman does not intend to challenge the decision of the High Court of London. As previously reported, Poroshenko paid 11 million lawyers
