Radio station “Echo of Moscow” is off the air. This was announced in his telegram channel on March 1 by the editor-in-chief of the publication Alexei Venediktov.
Formerly Prosecutor General’s Office demanded restrict access to the Echo and Dozhd* websites (recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation) “in connection with the purposeful and systematic posting on the Ekho Moskvy and Dozhd TV websites” of information with calls for extremist activity, violence, as well as deliberately false information regarding the actions of Russian military personnel as part of a special operation to protect the DPR and LPR.”
In the comments “Interfax” Venediktov said: “Usually, such notifications are received by the editor-in-chief of the Ekho Moskvy website, but he did not tell me anything about this. We didn’t receive anything. We will understand as (receipts. – Note. ed.). We believe that we did not violate anything, we do not see any traces of violations.”
In his Telegram channel, Venediktov added that the editorial staff “categorically disagrees with the presentation of the Prosecutor General’s Office.” “The claims contained in the submission are not supported by any examples, no evidence, they are unfounded and insulting to journalists and citizens of Russia,” the editor-in-chief of Ekho Moskvy wrote. He clarified that the editorial office will challenge this decision in courts: “We see a political component in it, as well as the introduction of censorship, which is directly prohibited by the Constitution of the Russian Federation.”
