Consideration of two criminal cases against opposition politician Alexei Navalny will take place in the colony where he is currently being held. Information about this is contained in the card file of the Lefortovsky District Court of Moscow. In the column “meeting room” is indicated IK-2 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Vladimir Region.
The politician’s lawyer, Olga Mikhailova, confirmed to Znak.com that the Lefortovo court session will be a visiting one, but she does not know the reasons for this decision. “We have not yet seen the resolution, so we do not know what motivations are indicated there. But in any case, a court session that takes place at a sensitive facility cannot be considered fair and public. We, lawyers, will not be able to use any equipment, I can’t even imagine journalists being allowed in. How we will bring witnesses to the colony is another question, ”Olga Mikhailova explained to our publication.
The criminal cases of fraud and contempt of court filed against Alexei Navalny were received by the Lefortovo District Court on February 3.
In total, five criminal cases were initiated against the politician. You can read more about them here.
Recall that on the day of his return to Russia after treatment in Germany (January 2021), Alexei Navalny was detained. In February, by decision of the Simonovsky District Court of Moscow, Alexei Navalny was sent to a colony – he was replaced with a suspended sentence in the Yves Rocher case for a real one. The reason for this was the statement of the Federal Penitentiary Service that the politician violated the terms of the probationary period several times, including when he was undergoing treatment in Berlin. On February 20, the decision stood in the Moscow City Court. According to the calculations of Navalny’s lawyers, the oppositionist can be released only in August 2023 (if the verdicts in other cases are not guilty).
