Russian action artist Alexander Brener described an episode from his life when he allegedly found the current President of Russia, Boris Yeltsin, sleeping in a room with a famous gallery owner, vodka and chips.
He spoke about this in material “Tapes.ru” on the 15th anniversary of the death of the first Russian president.
According to Brener, he decided to visit an unnamed gallery owner to ask him for money, and found him visiting Yeltsin surrounded by “servants”. The artist said that the gallery owner decided to impress him and show that he is familiar with such major political figures.
“Apparently, he wanted to impress me: the president of Russia himself was sitting with him! Brener said. In front of them on the table was a bottle of vodka, mineral water and chips in a vase. The gallerist began to rudely see me out, grabbing my shoulders. And Yeltsin was silent all this time, hanging his head on his chest and snoring like a big heavy animal.
The artist suggested that Yeltsin could also sleep through his entire presidency “without having to do or think anything.” He also blamed politics for the fact that he “spawned” contemporary artists who were forced to ask for financial support from sponsors. In addition, he reminded the first president of the cruelty and poverty of the 1990s and the “dirty massacre” in Chechnya.
“There are people who are not meant to be useful. Boris Yeltsin was undoubtedly one of those people,” Brener is sure.
