The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) agreed on the Bulgarian ex-Minister of Finance Simeon Dyankov as a trustee of Alfa-Bank (Kyiv), who will be fully transferred the right to vote on the shares of sanctioned shareholders of the financial institution.
According to the bank’s press service on Thursday, Dyankov will also have the right to participate in the bank’s management in any way and, in agreement with the NBU, in the general meeting and consider the report of the bank’s supervisory board.
According to the report, from July 2009 to March 2014, Dyankov was Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Finance of Bulgaria, now holds the position of Executive Director of the Financial Markets Group of the London School of Economics, and is a technical adviser to the European Commission. He also worked for the World Bank for 19 years.
As reported, on March 2, 2022, the NBU recognized the ultimate shareholders of Kyiv Alfa-Bank Mikhail Fridman (32.86%) and Petr Aven (12.4%) as having lost their impeccable business reputation and deprived them of their voting rights in the bank.
Ukrainian Alfa-Bank announced in early March that Fridman and Aven, who fell under EU sanctions, would transfer their stake in the bank to individuals and legal entities-residents of Ukraine agreed with the NBU. The financial institution indicated that negotiations were underway with large Polish and Ukrainian companies, as well as private investors.
“Majority owners of the bank remain large European and American funds and companies,” the bank specified.
As reported, the European Union on February 28 announced sanctions against Fridman and Aven.
