The Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) launched an investigation against the staff of figure skater Kamila Valieva because of a positive doping test she had.
About it reported on the agency website. Valieva won gold at the Beijing Olympics.
The figure skater passed a doping test in December, she was studied by the Stockholm Anti-Doping Laboratory, the report said. The results became known only on February 7.
“The reason for the delays in testing and reporting by the laboratory was another wave of COVID-19, an increase in the incidence among laboratory staff and quarantine rules,” the agency clarifies.
After the results, Valieva was temporarily suspended from the competition. However, on February 9, the Disciplinary Anti-Doping Committee lifted the restrictions on Valieva. The World Anti-Doping Agency has decided to challenge the lifting of the figure skater’s suspension.
After receiving a positive doping test, Valieva was suspended from participating in the Olympics. Nevertheless, the Disciplinary Anti-Doping Committee lifted the restrictions on Valieva. The International Olympic Committee has challenged this decision in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) – the verdict will be issued before February 15.
The Kremlin called a positive doping test a “misunderstanding.” Dmitry Peskov said that the authorities fully support the skater: “We say to Camila: do not hide your face! You are Russian! Proudly go everywhere and, most importantly, perform and win.
