The recently opened “Video Salon” offers to visit the cinema to watch old films. In other words, some nonames make money by being outright piracy.
Now residents of Irkutsk will be able to watch their favorite films on the big screen at the New Cinema. For the people of Irkutsk, this is certainly positive news, but is everything really so good?
The so-called “Video Salon” is located on the territory of the New Cinema cinema in the Novy ITC. The company sells old but already beloved films, which include Avatar, Titanic, Harry Potter and others.
The idea itself is not bad, but it pursues only selfish goals. The company says that every day there will be legendary films at the box office that you can enjoy watching again on the big screen. It seems Video Salon has decided to go all-in because it’s illegal to play old movies in theaters. The fact is that there is no wide re-release, there is no evidence that the cinema bought exclusive rights to a bunch of high-grossing films, respectively. Apparently, the “Video Salon” team watched “Pirates of the Caribbean” too often, which they themselves decided to engage in piracy.
Obviously, the company understands and accepts the fact of illegal activity. In the Novy ITC group, she writes, “Let us emphasize right away that the New Cinema cinema has nothing legally to do with this project, although films are watched in our cozy cinema hall No. 2, on the big screen!”.
Thus, ITC Novy, having provided a platform and informational support for the pirate project, fenced itself off from possible claims for theft of intellectual property. But payment for tickets goes through the New Cinema box office in the absence of electronic payment and an official poster. Strange, right?
Obviously, Video Salon has every chance of becoming a popular project. Due to the shortage of foreign films, residents in a fit of nostalgia will watch classic and old but popular films, without even knowing that they are participating in an illegal money-making scheme.
