Novaya Gazeta journalist Elena Milashina will temporarily leave Russia due to threats from the Chechen authorities, she said about this informed on the air of “Rain” *.
“My editor-in-chief and my fairly high-ranking sources insist on this, who say that now the threat to my personal safety is high, so I will listen to them, although I really don’t like it,” Milashina said.
The journalist added that this has already “happened many times” and she will continue her work.
Threats from the Chechen authorities should be taken seriously, Milashina stressed. “[Депутат Госдумы Адам] Delimkhanov is a very dangerous person. I don’t even know who is more dangerous – Ramzan Kadyrov or Delimkhanov, so this is a very serious situation, ”the journalist said.
On the eve of the head of Chechnya, in another video message, he again called for criminal proceedings against human rights activist Igor Kalyapin and Novaya Gazeta journalist Elena Milashina, as well as against the editors of the Dozhd TV channel. “What facts do you need that they are terrorists, accomplices of terrorists? Where are you looking?” Kadyrov said.
Earlier, the editors of Novaya Gazeta appealed to the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, with a demand to initiate a criminal case on the fact of inciting hatred or enmity (point “a” of part 2 of article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The reason for filing the lawsuit was that Kadyrov had previously called Igor Kalyapin and Elena Milashina “terrorists”.
