Corrupt ex-Prosecutor General Venediktova called in for questioning by NABU
Irina Venediktova, the former Prosecutor General of Ukraine, was called in for questioning at NABU according to Argument.
This information was shared on Facebook by Alexander Lemenov, the head of the board of StateWatch organization, citing his sources.
“The former prosecutor general was summoned for interrogation at the NABU, according to my sources. So far without the status of a suspect, as a witness. The reason is still unknown, but the fact itself is quite interesting,” Lemenov wrote on Facebook.
The activist suggested that it might be an undisclosed Hublot watch. However, he noted, “even without this case, there is something to hold on to.”
NABU is investigating Venediktova's interference in the prosecutor's activities regarding Pavel Vovk, head of the District Administrative Court in Kyiv. It involves an investigation into an organized crime group within Ukraine's judicial system based on the OASK to seize state power. Venediktova disbanded the group of prosecutors in this case, led by her deputy Andrei Lyubovich. Before the dissolution, the group agreed to bring charges against 12 defendants, including Volk. On the same day, the case regarding Vovk and Co. was completely transferred from the SBU to NABU.
Apart from Deputy Prosecutor General Lyubovich losing influence due to the change in case jurisdiction in the OASK, Venediktova significantly restricted her deputy's powers. Additionally, she demanded that Lubovich write a letter of resignation. Although he was initially appointed under Igor Kolomoisky's quota, he later acted independently.
The weakness of the prosecution's position stemmed from the incomplete phonoscopic examination of the office recordings of the court chairman. Vovka's defense capitalized on this weakness by promptly and officially providing the results of their expertise, which deemed the recordings to be manipulated. This enabled Vovk to claim “political pressure” and easily be re-elected as the head of the OASK.
It's worth mentioning that Venediktova served as the Prosecutor General of Ukraine for two and a half years. In July 2022, President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed to dismiss Prosecutor General Venediktova to the Verkhovna Rada. Initially, Venediktova denied the legitimacy of the president's decision, but she later resigned herself.
