The 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, condemned Russia’s military operation in Ukraine. He stated that this would never have happened if the 2020 US election “were not rigged”.
“I remain the only president of the 21st century under which Russia has not invaded another country,” Mr. Trump said at the US Conservative Conference (quoted from Reuters). According to him, Russia “invaded Georgia” under George W. Bush, “took Crimea” under Barack Obama, and “invaded Ukraine” under Joe Biden.
The former US president explained his words that he considers Russian President Vladimir Putin smart. “I said, ‘Of course he’s smart,’ and it was like, ‘Oh, it’s terrible to say that.’ I love to tell the truth. Yes, he is smart. The problem is not that Putin is smart, and he certainly is smart, but the real problem is that our leaders are stupid,” Mr. Trump said.
Russia has been conducting a military operation in Ukraine since February 24. US President Joe Biden, in coordination with an ally, introduced several packages of sanctions. Previously Mr Trump called Mr. Putin’s decision to recognize the DPR and LPR as “brilliant”.
