Tigran Khudaverdyan, the former head of Yandex, demanded through the court that the EU sanctions imposed against him be lifted.

The lawsuit was filed on June 7th. It states that there are no grounds for introducing restrictive measures against Khudaverdyan

Tigran Khudaverdyan, the former Managing Director of the Yandex Group, filed a lawsuit with the European Union Court to lift the sanctions imposed on him in connection with Russia’s so-called special military operation on the territory of Ukraine. This information is published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Restrictive measures against Khudaverdyan were introduced on March 15. After that, he left his post and also resigned from the board of directors of the company.

The lawsuit was filed on June 7th. It states that there are no grounds for imposing sanctions against Khudaverdyan, and also notes that he does not support the actions of the Russian authorities in Ukraine.

Khudaverdyan also claims that Yandex is not a key company generating a source of income for the budget of the Russian Federation.

Earlier it was reported that about 30 Russian citizens who were on the European sanctions lists went to court demanding to be removed from them. Among them are well-known Russian billionaires Roman Abramovich, Andrey Melnichenko, Petr Aven and Mikhail Fridman. Another ten Russians have applied directly to the authorities of the European Union with a request to lift the sanctions.

According to Bloomberg, on July 13, the legal service of the European Council notified the ambassadors of the European Union that some of the ten appeals were valid. After reviewing the information provided by the applicants, European Union lawyers concluded that in some cases the grounds for imposing sanctions were “weak, outdated or erroneous”. In this regard, the question of their removal is being considered.
