“Thousands of residents of Yelabuga” asked to release the rector of the Kazan Federal University (KFU) Ilshat Gafurov, who is accused of inciting the assassination of a criminal authority.
On Tuesday, February 15, Kommersant reports.
According to the publication, students, teachers, officials and scientists asked to release the rector from the “Kremlin Central” (SIZO No. 1). Lawyers have collected more than two thousand signatures in favor of a petition to transfer Gafurov from the special block to house arrest – he has an apartment in Moscow, and such a measure of restraint would suit the rector. The signatures of those who support the petition took up 128 sheets.
The KFU rector is accused of attempted murder and aggravated murder committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy for mercenary motives. Gafurov, according to investigators, was the instigator.
The victim was a deputy and businessman Aidar Israfilov. On August 28, 1999, in a parking lot near the market located in the CSKA sports complex in Moscow, a man in a white jacket jumped out of a parked VAZ-2106 and, in front of dozens of people, shot Israfilov point blank with a pistol.
Gafurov was detained because of the testimony of Adygan Salyakhov, the leader of the 29th complex organized crime group, one of the most brutal groups of the 1990s. More than 20 years later, he remembered that the fee was 50 thousand dollars. To discuss the details, Gafurov, according to him, personally flew to Moscow.
