Many manufacturers, who raised the cost of goods after the fall of the ruble, left them at the same level, despite the strengthening of the domestic currency

The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation asked the head of the Association of Retail Companies (AKORT) Igor Karavaev to submit to the department a list of suppliers who did not reduce purchase prices for their products after the strengthening of the ruble. This is stated in the material Forbes.

Karavaev himself told the publication that retailers were faced with a situation where suppliers raised prices, citing the weakening ruble, but the cost of products did not decrease after the strengthening of the national currency.

According to Karavaev, prices were lowered only by a few and not at all in the proportion in which they were raised. A representative of one of the retail chains also told the publication that “no one lowered the price.”

Forbes turned to the suppliers themselves to find out why the cost of their products is not reduced amid the strengthening of the ruble. They told the publication that often the increase in prices was not associated with a change in the exchange rate, and also noted that the cost of production depends not only on exchange rates.

After the release of the Forbes material, Igor Karavaev also told TASS that retail chains are considering all cases of abuse by suppliers in the current situation on an individual basis. In addition, he noted that retailers have to limit the trade margin on a number of socially important goods to their own detriment.

Recall that the exchange rate of the ruble against the dollar and the euro fell sharply after the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine at the end of February. After that, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation significantly limited foreign exchange transactions in Russia. In the first days of May, the domestic currency exchange rate returned to its previous values.
