    The Ministry of Justice added Albats, Aleshkovsky and Bykov to the register of media-foreign agents

    On July 29, the Russian Ministry of Justice added to the register of media-foreign agents, it included the editor-in-chief of The New Times Evgenia Albats, public figure Dmitry Aleshkovsky and writer Dmitry Bykov.

    The department’s website does not indicate the reasons for the inclusion in the register of journalists and the writer.

    Also on this list was Inoagent AAV LLC, which was created by the former editor-in-chief of Ekho Moskvy Alexei Venediktov*. Now the register includes 172 individuals and legal entities.

    Albats* told RBC that she intended to challenge the recognition as a foreign agent. “I was not notified about this. Of course, lawyers will challenge the decision of the Ministry of Justice,” she said.

    On July 20, the Simonovsky Court of Moscow fined the founder of The New Times magazine, Novye Vremya LLC, as well as its editor-in-chief Evgenia Albats* for disseminating false information. According to the court decision, New Times will have to pay two fines of 300 thousand rubles each, Albats * personally – 70 thousand. In March, the editor-in-chief of The New Times was already fined 120,000 rubles under the same article of the Code of Administrative Offenses.

    Last Friday, July 22, the Ministry of Justice added to the register of individuals acting as foreign agents, it included Russian political and public figure Ruslan Shaveddinov, deputy of the Moscow municipal district Krasnoselsky Ilya Yashin, former deputy of the municipal assembly of the Moscow inner city municipality Shchukino Maxim Katz, blogger Veronika Belotserkovskaya and TV presenter Tatyana Lazareva. In the column “Information about foreign sources” all five have “Ukraine” written.
