Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammatei was not injured in the attack on his motorcade, local media reported, citing government and military sources.
According to them, on Saturday, unknown people opened fire on the president’s motorcade during his visit to the department of Huehuetenango in the west of the country near the border with Mexico.
According to the media, the four Guatemalan attackers tried to escape to Mexico, but were detained by the military.
A spokesman for the Guatemalan military later said that there had been no attack on the president.
