The Kremlin refused to comment on the case of the rector of the RANEPA Mau
The Kremlin will not comment on the detention and preventive measure of RANEPA Rector Vladimir Mau in the case of fraud. This was stated by the press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov, his words are quoted by TASS.
“No, there will be no comments from the Kremlin,” the presidential spokesman said.
The detention of the RANEPA rector became known on Thursday, June 30. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Mau is involved in the case of ex-Deputy Minister of Education Marina Rakova on a major fraud. The security forces conducted searches at the rector accused of major fraud, as well as in the offices of a number of university employees.
On June 30, a few hours before the arrest, at the annual meeting of shareholders, Mau was elected to the board of directors of Gazprom. The court chose a measure of restraint for Vladimir Mau in the form of house arrest. Lawyers for the rector of the RANEPA announced their intention to appeal the court’s decision.
In the nineties, Vladimir Mau was an adviser to Yegor Gaidar, then, until 2002, he headed the Working Center for Economic Reforms under the Russian government. From 2002 to 2010, Mau was the rector of the Academy of National Economy under the government, and then headed the RANEPA, which appeared after the merger with the Russian Academy of Public Administration.
