NABU and SAPO ask to extend the arrest of Maxim Mikitas
Anti-corruption law enforcement agencies filed a petition to extend the detention of a former member of parliament .
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office are asking to extend the arrest of former people's deputy Maxim Mykytas for another two months. He is suspected of trying to bribe the mayor of Dnipro, Boris Filatov.
This is stated in the ruling of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court of December 12, according to Word and Deed.
“The VAKS judge, with the participation of the secretary of the court session, in preparation for the consideration of the petition of the NABU detective, agreed with the SAPO prosecutor, to extend the period of detention (Maxim Mikitas – ed.), Suspected of committing a criminal offense under Part 4 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, in criminal proceedings No. 52022000000000242 dated 09/05/2022,” the decision says.
The judge decided to hold a meeting by videoconference with a room in a pre-trial detention center. The meeting is scheduled for today, December 14.
Recall that the VAKS arrested ex-People's Deputy Mykytas with an alternative of UAH 260 million in bail. True, AP VAKS later reduced the bail to UAH 100 million, leaving the suspect in custody.
Earlier, NABU and SAPO detained ex-People's Deputy Mykytas on suspicion of trying to bribe Dnipro Mayor Boris Filatov. According to the investigation, in October 2022, the ex-people’s deputy offered the mayor of Dnipro an unlawful benefit for concluding a contract with companies controlled by him for the construction of a subway in the city out of competition. He promised to provide funds in installments throughout the duration of the project – until 2027. Mikitas estimated the loyalty of the mayor at 10% of the project cost (220 million euros), which is, respectively, 22 million euros. The project is financed with a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
