Real incomes of Russian citizens in 2021 increased by 3.1%, such data has provided Rosstat in the report on the socio-economic situation in Russia. This is higher than the forecast of the Ministry of Economic Development. How notes RBCthis is the largest increase since 2013, when the income of Russians jumped by 4%.
However, it should be taken into account that the indicators before 2014 were calculated according to a different methodology, so they cannot be fully compared with the new calculations. The IPEI RANEPA believes that a 3.1% increase in real disposable income in 2021 is a very good result, given last year’s 8.4% inflation.
In 2019, Rosstat adjusted the methodology for calculating household cash income for the first time since the 1990s.
It also follows from Rosstat data that the decline in real incomes in 2020 (the first year of the pandemic) has been significantly revised from 2.8% to 2%. The department noted that the revision is associated with the receipt of updated data on regional social support for citizens.
