Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the statement of British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, who questioned Russia’s sovereignty over Rostov-on-Don and Voronezh.
In his opinion, the diplomat misspoke, RIA Novosti reports.
“Let’s still call reservations reservations and let’s hope to the last that we are talking about reservations, but the fact that, indeed, the leading actors in world diplomacy will have problems reading the very short and extremely clear text of the Minsk package of measures is obvious,” – considered the press secretary of the President of Russia.
He noted that very qualified high-ranking political advisers to the heads of state of the Minsk Four cannot draw the same understanding from one text. “Here we are, for example, we all witnessed how yesterday again, unfortunately, another meeting of political advisers of the Normandy Four ended without results,” Peskov recalled.
The fact that Truss doubted Russia’s sovereignty over the Rostov and Voronezh regions became known on Thursday, February 10. At a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, she said: “The UK will never recognize Russian sovereignty over these regions.”
British Ambassador to Russia Deborah Bronnert intervened in the situation, who explained to Truss that the Rostov and Voronezh regions are indeed Russian subjects.
