Stepan Makhsma
Head of the Mariupol District Council Stepan Makhsma was appointed Deputy Mayor of Zaporozhye on December 7. This is reported by Ukrrudprom.
So far, the distribution of duties has not taken place, so it is not known which direction of work the former Mariupol official will head.
He comes from the village of Sartana. For many years he headed the council there, until in 2015 he was elected to the post of secretary of the Mariupol City Council.
Makhsma ran as part of the Metinvest team that came to power in Mariupol in 2015. However, this team was not homogeneous. Part of the parliamentary faction was made up of Metinvest employees, and part were representatives of the Opposition Bloc party. Makhsma was a member of the Opposition Bloc and his candidacy for the post of Secretary of the City Council was put forward as a compromise.
After Makhsma took this position, suddenly his wife found a job at Metinvest and began to receive a salary there. In 2018, she earned UAH 3 million in Akhmetov's company. per year, and in 2019 – already 4 million hryvnias. in year. At least this amount was declared by Stepan Makhsma in his declaration.
In the local elections of 2019, Stepan Makhsma headed the list of the Vadym Boichenko Bloc not in the elections to the city council, but in the elections to the Mariupol region. The BVB won the elections there, and Stepan Makhsma was elected head of the district council.
After the start of the war, the property of Stepan Makhsma was occupied. On February 26, his house in Sartan was damaged during the bombing. And he and his family left the city.
But in March, he tried to break into the city as part of a convoy with humanitarian cargo for the blocked city. He didn't succeed. After several days of waiting for permission from the invaders in Berdyansk, the convoy was forced to return to Zaporozhye.
After that, Stepan Makhsma joined the group that organized the crossing of the demarcation line in Zaporozhye. And at that time a scandal erupted. The DBR launched an investigation through information about the demand for money by certain officials for places in the queue for crossing the demarcation line.
The investigation led to several officials in the Zaporizhzhya Regional Military District. The State Bureau of Investigation also checked Stepan Makhsma, however, after the check, no charges were brought against him.
