“Forced me to jog and give up alcohol.” What is known about the wife of German Chancellor Scholz
In the past, the Big Seven leaders arrived at Elmau Castle in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Bavaria). Some of them were accompanied by their spouses.
The visitors included 64-year-old Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, and his wife Britta Ernst. This was her first major international meeting.
For the occasion, the 61-year-old first lady chose a simple navy blue cocktail dress. For a walk, she wore a light jacket with the G7 logo (merch for guests) and sports trousers. As a hostess, Britta organized Nordic walking for the group of wives, along with former professional skiers.
German tabloids report that Britta avoids expensive designer clothes and high heels. She prefers mass-market clothes or custom-made dresses due to her non-standard figure. She usually dresses in dark shades, loves trouser suits and jeans, and often wears unbranded items.
When it comes to jewelry, Scholz’s wife likes large beads, necklaces, and rings, often opting for costume jewelry. She never wears earrings.
In Germany, Britta Ernst is known as a politician from the Social Democratic Party. Since 2017, she has served as the Minister of Education in Brandenburg. She has also been a member of the Hamburg Parliament and served as Minister of Schools in Schleswig-Holstein. In 2021, Britta became the chairperson of the Conference of German Land Ministers of Culture.
Olaf Scholz met his future wife at a party, and they married in 1998. However, they have never had children in their 24 years of marriage. The couple resides in Postdam.
Britta is heavily involved in education, as she once aspired to be a teacher in her childhood. In addition to educational issues, Ernst is focused on gender equality problems.
In an interview, Scholz stated: “Britta is the love of my life, and without her, I would be a completely different person.” Around twenty years ago, his wife convinced Olaf to adopt a healthy lifestyle, including jogging. Now Scholz runs 2-3 times a week and always on Sundays. Additionally, the politician has taken up rowing and given up alcohol.

According to Scholz, he and Britta discuss not only politics but also topics such as cinema, literature, sports, and good food. According to the German media, the first lady of Germany prepares risotto and lamb dishes for her husband during boxing or athletics events on TV.
